BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — The body of a man was spotted Thursday morning by his loved ones in the water near Mack’s Fish Camp in west Broward.
Sky 10 was above the scene around 9:40 a.m. as several Broward Sheriff’s Office units were in the area.
Noon report:
The victim’s body was covered by a tarp as detectives stood near it.
According to BSO, they received a call shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday about a vehicle in a canal near the 18000 block of Krome Avenue in unincorporated Broward County.
Deputies who were in Weston responded to the scene along with BSO’s Dive Team, Missing Persons Unit, Marine Patrol and the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Unit.
A BSO spokesperson confirmed that deputies located a Chevy Tahoe that was submerged in the canal, and the man’s body was found early Thursday morning.
Relatives identified the victim to Local 10 News as 27-year-old Ramiro Gomez.

They believe he drove out to the area to go fishing and crashed into the water.
Loved ones said they spotted his lifeless body in the water Thursday morning.
”We tried to find him all around the area and we found him on the water, floating,” Teresa Rojo said.
The wife of the victim’s co-worker said Gomez and his brother lived together in South Florida, having immigrated from southern Mexico to work as landscapers.
“It is really difficult,” Rojo said. “He doesn’t have many family here besides his brother, so we feel like we need to support him.”
BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit remained at the scene Thursday morning conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Gomez’s death.
“He was a very nice guy,” Rojo said. “He was only working here -- just working, nothing bad and I would like to ask for support now. We need to ask for support and send him back to his family in Mexico.”
A GoFundMe page has been created to help return Gomez’s body to his family in Mexico where his funeral will be held.
