Man living across Miami elementary school arrested during child sex crimes probe

MIAMI — A 25-year-old man was under investigation for sexual crimes against children when detectives searched his apartment, across the street from Shenandoah Elementary School in Miami, according to police.

Investigators found more than 100 images showing the sexual abuse of children -- some of whom appeared to be as young as one or two years old -- in Eddy Santiesteban’s Samsung phone and an external hard drive, records show.

In some of the videos that are under investigation, men abused helpless girls, women abused little boys, and minors sexually abused each other, according to the police report on Santiesteban’s arrest.

Santiesteban, who is 5 feet, 2 inches tall, weighs about 210 pounds, and was born in Cuba, appeared in Miami-Dade County bond court on Thursday and faced 16 felony charges, records show.

Miami police officers had arrested Santiesteban shortly after 7 a.m. on Wednesday after an investigation started with cyber tips about his alleged uploads on Kik, a messaging app, records show.

Miami-Dade County correctional deputies had booked Santiesteban, also known as Eddy Carlos Santiesteban-Perez, at 9:35 a.m. on Wednesday at the Turner Guilford Correctional Center, records show.

Miami-Dade County records showed Santiesteban faced 15 counts of possession of images of sexual performance by a child and a charge of promoting sexual performance by a child. His bond was $23,000.
