STOCK ISLAND, Fla. — A night of drinking over the weekend led to two men being stabbed on Stock Island in the Florida Keys, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
According to MCSO spokesman Adam Linhardt, Jorge Luis Soto Lopez, 25, of Stock Island, was arrested Wednesday on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery.
Linhardt said the stabbing occurred Sunday night at a home on Maloney Avenue where two men had been drinking alcohol.
He said deputies were called to the home twice regarding a battery.
Deputies left after the first call as no serious injuries were reported and the man who had been punched declined to press charges, authorities said.
But Linhardt said deputies returned about two hours later after both men involved in the initial incident had stabbed each other with knives.
“Soto Lopez suffered an injury to his arm and was later airlifted to a Miami hospital for treatment. The other male suffered a less serious injury to his hand,” Linhardt said in a news release.
According to Linhardt, deputies later determined that Soto Lopez was the primary aggressor and warrants were obtained for his arrest.
He was booked into jail on Wednesday.
