MIAMI SPRINGS, Fla. — With the first day of school just around the corner, families gathered Saturday morning at Miami Springs Senior High for the River Cities Back-to-School Backpack and Resource Fair.
The event, hosted by Miami-Dade School Board Member Danny Espino, aims to prepare students across the community with essential supplies before the new school year begins.
Among the organizations participating was GEMRT, which distributed 500 backpacks filled with school supplies to local families.
“We’re thrilled to be part of the resource fair and give away 500 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to the community,” said Frances Cabrera Yec, a manager with GEMRT. “At GEMRT, our core value is ‘We Care.’”
Several community partners set up booths offering everything from free school items to health and educational resources. The event also provided a chance for families to connect with local leaders ahead of the fall semester.
The fair was scheduled to continue through the early afternoon.
