Medley police announce pair of mail theft arrests

Marcos Peraza and Alberto Davila

MEDLEY, Fla. — Police in Medley announced the arrest of two men allegedly connected to crimes including mail theft.

Officers arrested 23-year-old Marcos Peraza and 40-year-old Alberto Davila just after 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to police, officers pulled over a vehicle in the area of Northwest 70th Street and 87th Avenue after observing it in an empty parking lot with no open businesses around.

Due to an expired vehicle registration, expired driver’s license and illegal window tints, Peraza, the driver, was taken into custody.

The suspects were unable to give officers a lawful reason why they were in the closed parking lot, so both were charged by officers with loitering and prowling.

After searching the vehicle, officers said they found a U.S. Postal Service arrow key, which is used by mail carriers to access mail boxes, along with various items including blank checks, forged documents, stolen mail, credit cards, ID cards and personal information belonging to several victims.

The arrow key, police said, was determined to be either counterfeit or duplicated.

The U.S. Postal Police is assisting with the investigation.
