KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. — Newly released videos are shedding light on the boat crash that killed 15-year-old Ella Adler last summer.
Surveillance videos from the afternoon of May 11, 2024 show a boat operated by 78-year-old Carlos Alonso out on Biscayne Bay.
At around 4 p.m., that same vessel struck Adler, of Miami Beach, as she was wakeboarding near Nixon Beach.
Body camera video also shows how Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers used a description of the vessel to question boaters in the area.
Photos released by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office show the boat Adler was on, a neon green wakeboard, and drops of blood on a swim platform.
Her wetsuit was ripped and stained with blood.
Alonso, of Coral Gables, was charged with two misdemeanors for careless operation of a vessel.
Additionally, 32-year-old Edward Hartley was also charged with four counts of misdemeanor careless operation.
He was operating the boat that towed the teen.
In an interview last year, Alonso’s attorney insisted he didn’t know he struck Adler.
“He is devastated by the tragedy,” said attorney Lauren Field Krasnoff. “He had no idea that an accident had occurred, much less that he might’ve been involved.”
