MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 26-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a child custody dispute escalated into gunfire Thursday night in a northeast Miami-Dade neighborhood, leaving two men injured, authorities confirmed.
Denilson Desrameaux was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center following his release from the hospital, according to deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Jail records obtained by Local 10 News on Friday show he is facing one count each of attempted second-degree murder, discharging a firearm from a vehicle and unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public place or residential property.
It happened around 8:45 p.m. near Northeast 119th Street, where deputies said they responded to reports of a man shot.
Upon arrival, deputies said a man was located with a gunshot wound to the right arm and was then taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
Shortly after, they said Desrameaux arrived at Jackson North Medical Center with a gunshot wound of his own and was later transferred to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital for additional treatment.
According to an arrest report, Desrameaux is the father of a 3-year-old boy whose mother is now dating the victim. The mother and the victim live together at the home where the shooting occurred.
Because of previous conflicts between Desrameaux and the mother, investigators said all custody exchanges had reportedly been occurring at the child’s daycare.
But on Thursday evening, Desrameaux allegedly showed up unannounced at the home, honking his car horn repeatedly from outside, according to his arrest report.
The report stated that the victim escorted the woman and children inside, then stepped out to investigate.
As he approached the vehicle, Desrameaux allegedly fired a shot through the closed passenger-side window, hitting the victim in the arm. The victim returned fire, and Desrameaux fled the scene, the report stated.
Investigators said the mother provided a statement and identified Desrameaux from a photograph.
She also showed detectives a series of text messages she received prior to the shooting from Desrameaux, including one that read, “Yooo I’m outside your house or drug home. Bring David. Tryna anything funny I got the Draco with me. Bring me my son," according to detectives.
Authorities said a “Draco” is a slang reference to a semi-automatic firearm.
After being released from the hospital, deputies said Desrameaux was taken to MDSO’s Intracoastal District for questioning. They said he invoked his right to an attorney and did not make a statement.
Authorities confirmed multiple children were inside the home at the time of the shooting but were not injured.
As of Friday, Desrameaux remained at TGK, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
