Opa-locka exhibition celebrates Miami’s Black culture through bold art and storytelling

New Liberty City exhibit highlights Miami’s Black community and culture

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. — A new exhibition in Opa-locka is spotlighting Miami’s Black culture and community through bold visuals and powerful storytelling.

It’s the latest work from a Miami artist known for using public spaces to spark conversation.

The new “Still We Rise” exhibition features work by Addonis Parker, a Miami-born muralist and restorationist whose large scale murals and mixed media art focuses on identity, history and empowerment.

“Whoever represents righteousness, those are my people and I draw from them. I draw from their energy, concerns and worries and also mine -- and I build a message,” he said.

You can catch the exhibition from now until Aug. 30 at The Arc, located at 675 Ali Baba Ave.

Parker also partnered with One United Bank, designing 10 original debit card signs, all created in partnership with the nation’s largest Black-owned bank.
