According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials, the fire was reported just after 5:45 a.m. in the 1700 block of NE 27th St.

“The fire extended into the home’s attic, complicating efforts to extinguish it,” FLFR said in an email to Local 10 News. “Further complicating things was the fact that power to the home could not be shut down for over an hour and a half, causing additional dangers to our firefighters.”

The fire was extinguished around 8:15 a.m.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help the family during their time of need.
