Unlicensed driver arrested after pedestrian killed in Miami crash, police say

Pedestrian killed in Miami crash

MIAMI — Miami police say a driver wasn’t at fault for hitting and killing a pedestrian near the city’s Allapattah neighborhood Monday morning, but he was taken into custody anyway; authorities say the 50-year-old was driving without a valid license.

The crash happened along Northwest 36th Street, near 31st Avenue, sometime before 7 a.m.

Authorities said the pedestrian, an 80-year-old man, stepped into traffic outside of a crosswalk when the driver hit him.

Police identified the arrested driver as Darvin Cardenas Juarez and said he only had a Florida identification card ― and has never been licensed to drive.

Authorities haven’t released the pedestrian’s name.

Authorities blocked off a portion of the road as they investigated the wreck.
