MIAMI — Miami police say a driver wasn’t at fault for hitting and killing a pedestrian near the city’s Allapattah neighborhood Monday morning, but he was taken into custody anyway; authorities say he was driving without a valid license.
The crash happened along Northwest 36th Street, near 31st Avenue, sometime before 7 a.m.
Authorities said the pedestrian, an elderly man, stepped into traffic outside of a crosswalk when the driver hit him.
Police haven’t released the pedestrian’s name.
Video showed the driver, whose name also hasn’t been released, sitting in the back of a squad car after police said he gave them a driver’s license that wasn’t valid.
Authorities blocked off a portion of the road as they investigated the wreck.
