BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — A small plane made an emergency landing in the Everglades in West Broward Tuesday morning with two people onboard, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue officials confirmed.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the pilot of a single-engine Cessna 172 landed on a dirt road in the Everglades around 8:20 a.m. after reporting engine issues.
Sky 10 was above the scene shortly before 9:30 a.m. as the small plane was standing up on its nose.
For Capt. Brett Isackson, who operates a fishing boat in the Everglades, this isn’t the first time he’s seen planes flying low out there.
“I know they like to practice out here, flying,” he said.
But Tuesday morning, when Isackson was watching a plane make passes over the area, something caught his eye.
“It went nose straight down,” he said.
Isackson watched as the pilot and a passenger climbed out of the plane.
“When they got out of the plane it was a guy and a girl,” he said. “We asked if they needed help and they said there was help coming out to them.”
BSFR Battalion Chief Michael B. Kane confirmed to Local 10 that both people onboard the plane were not injured.
He said they were both taken to a command station at Holly Lakes mobile home park in Pembroke Pines.
According to FlightAware.com, the plane departed from North Perry Airport prior to the incident.
Records show the plane is registered to Flight Answers LLC, based in Miami Lakes.
