MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Miami Beach police say a 32-year-old South Beach resident handed detectives his phone to “prove his innocence” in a domestic violence investigation.
It turned out, they say, that Justin Milton Benore was handing them evidence that he was viewing violent videos depicting the sexual abuse of young children and at least one dog.
Authorities said Benore, after being arrested on a felony charge in June for giving his live-in girlfriend of one week a fibular fracture by pushing her to the ground, told detectives “he had conversations and screenshots related to the incident that would prove his innocence” and gave detectives his phone for a data extraction.
Police said that upon reviewing the extracted files on July 1, a detective found an image of a man sexually abusing a girl aged 6 to 8.
An arrest report states that led detectives to dig deeper ― and on July 25, a search warrant revealed at least two dozen more disturbing images and videos, depicting the rape and abuse of boys and girls as young as “toddler” age, as well as one video depicting the abuse of both a young child and a dog.
All of the files were found on messaging app Telegram, police said, which is “known to be used for illicit activities such as the distribution of (child sexual abuse material).”
Following an interview at Miami Beach police headquarters on Tuesday, detectives arrested Benore, who lives in the West Avenue neighborhood, on 25 charges related to the possession of child sexual abuse material and one count of possession of images involving sexual conduct with animals.
Jail records show he was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $127,500 bond.
