PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — During a ceremony at City Hall on Wednesday, Pembroke Pines officials honored the heroism of Scott Hanley, Tarrance Sheffield, and Eddy Crispin.
A pilot and three passengers, including two children, were in a Cessna T337G when it crashed into a tree on July 13 just west of the North Perry Airport.
“I was supposed to be at the right place at the right time, and I wish and feel like anybody would do the same thing,” Crispin said after the ceremony.
Hanley, a Boca Raton Police Department detective, Sheffield, and Crispin rushed to the damaged plane near Southwest 14th Street and 68th Boulevard.
The courageous men used a hammer, an ax, and a garden hose and acted quickly. They didn’t hesitate to break windows and pull out the injured.
Commissioners also passed a resolution urging the Federal Aviation Administration to investigate why there have been over 35 plane crashes in the last five years.
