BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — The Humane Society of Broward County is hoping a one-year-old Jack Russell terrier mix named Von Pierre finds a forever home after making his television debut on Saturday’s “Adopt a Pet” segment.
The energetic pup arrived at the shelter as a stray about 10 days ago. Despite efforts to locate an owner, no one came forward to claim him. Now, he’s looking for a new family to call his own.
Shelter staff say Von Pierre is friendly, well-behaved on a leash, and eager to be around people. At just 24 pounds, he’s considered fully grown and would do well in a variety of homes — from families with young children to older adults.
“He’s got such a chill demeanor and a good personality,” said HSBC’s Matthew Seligman. “This is one of those dogs that I think could acclimate to almost any kind of lifestyle.”
Shelter staff believe Von Pierre may be a Jack Russell mix, but say his DNA could hold some surprises. He’s treat-motivated, easy to handle, and has quickly adapted to life at the shelter.
As with many stray intakes, Von Pierre received his name upon arrival. While some surrendered pets keep their original names, shelter staff occasionally choose names that they feel may help the animal stand out to potential adopters.
HSBC continues to encourage adoptions and donations, noting an ongoing need for basic supplies such as collars, leashes, treats, and pee pads. The shelter also offers obedience classes to help new pet owners adjust.
Even for those who can’t adopt, Seligman said simply sharing shelter animals on social media makes a significant difference.
“We get applications from people overseas sometimes just because they saw a post,” he said.
Seligman also confirmed that Thursday’s featured pet, Moose, has already been adopted.
