COCONUT CREEK, Fla. — Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Howard Hepburn was at Coconut Creek High School Monday morning, welcoming students and staff members back to school.
This year, some teachers will be using artificial intelligence to help teach their classes. Also new are safety alert badges that every single staff member now has, from cafeteria workers to, of course, every teacher, who can simply press a button now for help in case of an emergency.
In the town of Davie, automated cameras have been installed to catch speeding drivers.
The cameras were up and running starting Monday morning and a $100 fine will be issued to those caught driving more than 10 mph over the speed limit.
Other towns in Broward County are also expected to install the cameras.
Hepburn held a news conference at Coconut Creek High School Monday morning, highlighting some important reminders.
“We just want to remind parents that you still have time to fill out the lunch applications to check your eligibility,” he said. “We are giving a grace period of 30 days and, of course, we will be feeding breakfast to all of our students all year.”
“We need the parents to check Focus, and that’s where all the information, all the scholars’ grades are, and a best practice is to sit down with their scholar maybe on Tuesday’s and Thursday evenings at the dinner table and to review their Focus grades,” Principal Nicole Nearor said.
District leaders also remind parents that two new medical clinics are opening at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach and William Dandy Middle School in Fort Lauderdale for students, staff and even parents to be checked out at an affordable cost.
