MIAMI — Miami police are investigating a double shooting.

It happened around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Southwest 10th Avenue and Fourth Street in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

According to Miami police, two men were standing on the side of the road when a car drove up to them. The driver of that car got out and shot both men multiple times, police said.

One neighbor told Local 10 News his brother was home at the time and heard the gunshots.

“He was sitting in his room, relaxing. He just heard nine shots from his window. And then, he was just like scared, shaken up. He didn’t want to go outside,” the neighbor said.

A man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene while the second victim, a man in his 60s, was rushed to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital after being shot in the leg, authorities said. At last check, he was listed in critical condition.

Police said one person of interest was detained at the scene.

“We want to make sure he’s secluded and that he’s not fed information, false information from anyone else on scene, saying ‘Oh, it was this that happened,’ when in his mind he knows what he saw and maybe that will be more valuable to us than having hearsay from him,” said Officer Michael Vega, with the Miami Police Department.

The investigation into the shooting remains active and ongoing.

“I’m obviously a little bit scared. Like, it could’ve happened to me,” one neighbor said.

Police said they are not planning to release a description of the vehicle the shooter was driving yet, as they are continuing to gather evidence.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Miami Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
