MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Puerto Rican rapper, singer and producer Jhayco was arrested early Tuesday morning on drug charges in Miami-Dade County.
Online jail records show Jhayco, whose real name is Jesus Manuel Nieves Cortes, was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 4:24 a.m.
According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sherriff’s Office, the 32-year-old rapper was behind the wheel of a red Corvette that was going just 5 mph in the eastbound lanes of Southwest Eighth Street, near 69th Avenue.
Deputies said the car then came to a complete stop on the roadway and did not move for more than a minute.
According to the report, a deputy initiated a traffic stop and as the deputy approached the vehicle, he smelled the strong odor of cannabis emitting from within the car.
The deputy wrote in the arrest report that he also saw that the driver had white powder on his pants and white powder on his nose.
According to the report, Jhayco was asked for his driver’s license and was then ordered out of the vehicle.
He was detained as deputies searched his car and his pockets, finding two black pouches containing suspected cannabis and two clear baggies of suspected cocaine, authorities said.
Deputies said Jhayco spontaneously made a statement, although that statement was redacted from the publicly released report.
Jhayco was ultimately arrested on charges of possession of cocaine and possession of 20 grams or less of cannabis.
As of Tuesday morning, he was being held on a $3,000 bond.
Jhayco released his debut studio album, “Famouz,” in 2019 after releasing multiple EPs.
