MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the fourth largest district in the country, is returning to class for the first day of the 2025-26 school year.
M-DCPS buses hit the road early Thursday morning to transport about 50,000 students to some 500 schools. The all-electric bus fleet was at 85, as part of a 2030 goal to use 100% clean energy.
Jose L. Dotres, the M-DCPS superintendent, was riding a school bus to visit Westland Hialeah Senior High School, where middle school students will be attending for the first time.
Classes were already in session at many schools. Dr. Henry E. Perrine Academy of the Arts in Palmetto Bay was among the campuses that were open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WEATHER
Expect a hot and humid day with temperatures in the 90s.
Models hint that afternoon sea breeze showers will develop, but will be staying over inland areas.
Similarly to Wednesday, the showers will be near areas west of the Turnpike, near Interstate 75, and the Sawgrass Expressway.
This will keep the coastal areas mostly dry.
Highs will reach the lower 90s, but the heat is expected to reach from 105 to 110 degrees. Stay hydrated.
