Scott Thomas Deiseroth was taken into custody after a call to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at around 3:25 p.m. reported a vehicle driving recklessly near Mile Marker 40 on U.S. 1 in the Florida Keys.

Deputies said they observed the vehicle swerving and driving into oncoming traffic before stopping it near Mile Marker 36.5. They said inside the vehicle were two children, ages 7 and 9.

According Adam Linhardt, a spokesman with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Deiseroth had a strong odor of alcohol, misidentified his location, and gave deputies the wrong direction of travel. He then failed standardized field sobriety exercises and was arrested.

Linhardt said the children were released to a family member, and the Florida Department of Children and Families was notified.

Deiseroth’s claim of being an ICE agent is currently being investigated.

Jail records show his arraignment date is set for Aug. 22.
