Firefighters respond to apartment building fire in North Miami Beach

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Miami-Dade firefighters responded to a sixth-floor apartment fire in a high-rise building on Friday in North Miami Beach.

Firefighters evacuated the Coral Isle East, a building at 3545 NE 166 St., in the Eastern Shores neighborhood.

Before the evacuation, Dolly Cortones said she noticed the fire was in an apartment on a floor above her after debris started falling on her balcony.

Cortones said she wanted her Coral Isle East neighbors to know, so she started to shout, “Fire! Fire! Fire!”

Cortones said she ran out of her apartment and knocked on as many doors as she could before running out of the building.

Yulia Rydler said she panicked and forgot to rescue her cats when she ran out of her apartment and the building. Her cats were not hurt.

“You don’t know what to take,” Rydler said.

No one was injured, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
