Police took Keondra Tatiana Berry, 42, into custody on Monday in connection with the May 22 incident.

Police said the victim, a 71-year-old woman, was in the parking lot of the complex, at 6040 NW 12th Ave., when Berry “began yelling at her from the balcony of her unit.” An arrest report doesn’t state what Berry was allegedly yelling about.

Berry then “threw a can of beans from the balcony,” which missed the woman and hit her car instead, causing a dent, police said.

“Berry subsequently ran down the stairs, retrieved the can of beans and confronted the victim, who was attempting to flee to her apartment,” the report states. “As the victim grabbed onto a post for stability, Berry struck her with a closed fist.”

Police said Berry “briefly paused” but then followed the woman into her apartment without permission, where she proceeded to punch the senior an additional 23 times as she was “backed against a sofa.”

Berry then grabbed the woman’s Samsung cellphone ― and the beans ― and fled, police said.

“The victim followed Berry outside, where Berry repeatedly smashed the phone against the ground and ultimately threw it down a nearby sewer drain,” the report states.

Police said officers were able to fish the visibly-injured woman’s phone from the drain.

On Monday, officers said they found Berry at the Publix at 155 E. Second Ave. in Hialeah and took her into custody on charges of burglary with assault or battery, battery on a person 65 or older and misdemeanor criminal mischief.

Authorities said Berry initially agreed to speak with officers without an attorney, but the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office called and advised her to remain silent.

Jail records indicate that Berry was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
