It happened at midnight on Wednesday as Melvin Victor was celebrating his 30th birthday.

Victor’s family said they were meeting with detectives on Thursday as investigators are trying to come up with a description of the shooter who those loved ones said is a heartless killer.

“Melvin was a reliable, respectful young man and to see what happened to him, to see him lying on the floor, he didn’t deserve that,” said Jude Denozil, Victor’s brother. “Melvin didn’t do anything to no one. He was celebrating his birthday.”

Denozil said his brother was outside their apartment building on Northeast 169th Street and 20th Avenue and celebrating with friends, when a hail of gunfire erupted.

“I heard the gunshot, I heard his friends, ‘Melvin, Melvin, Melvin,’” Denozil said. “Banging on the door, ‘Your brother’s been shot, your brother’s been shot.’ I woke up my mom, ran downstairs, I couldn’t allow to see her son on the floor, unresponsive. To see my baby brother, he’s not moving. Police, they’re doing their best to do CPR. He was gone, he was gone, man.”

Victor’s family was proud of him. He’d been working for the city of North Miami Beach just across the street.

Detectives are now looking for his killer.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
