The man authorities say is responsible for a fatal crash in South Florida is being extradited back to the Sunshine State.
Video obtained by Local 10 News shows 28-year-old Harjinder Singh being escorted onto a plane in California with the help of law enforcement and Florida Lt. Gov. Jay Collins.
Singh will face charges for the deaths of three South Floridians in a crash that happened on Aug. 12
Video from the truck cabin shows Singh making an illegal U-turn on Florida’s Turnpike, 50 miles north of West Palm Beach.
A van couldn’t stop in time and slammed into the truck.
The truck was making the U-turn in an area of the highway marked “Official Use Only,” blocking lanes on the road.
Sing was not arrested at the crash site, and he has since traveled back to California.
Singh crossed into the United States illegally in 2018, and he obtained a commercial driver’s license in California, which is one of 19 states where licenses can be issued regardless of immigration status.
Collins’ trip west is drawing praise and criticism, with some calling it political showmanship and taking credit for law enforcement work.
“We’re going to make sure that this thug is brought to justice and faces it in Florida, and that those three lives lost are given accountability and the justice they deserve,” said Collins.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis criticized Singh’s ability to become a licensed truck driver, saying he should have never been behind the wheel.
“He is arriving in Florida today and he will get the book thrown at him very shortly after that,” said DeSantis.
Singh is facing three vehicular homicide charges and immigration violations. He faces deportation.
The identities of the victims who died have not been revealed, but we know they were two men and a woman, and that they were from Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
