MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies arrested a couple they said were operating an illegal recovery house for cosmetic surgery patients in west Miami-Dade.
Deputies said Marileydis Gomez, 49, and Lazaro Gonzalez Bordao, 51, were running Diamond Post Care Recovery Home along with Yaiset Delpino Gomez, 30, who was listed as “at large” in an arrest report obtained Thursday.
Deputies said the home was located at the corner of Southwest 75th Avenue and Florida Boulevard, just outside of the Miami city limits.
Diamond Post Care, authorities said, was licensed as a business but not as an assisted living facility, as is required.
They said after serving a search warrant at the home on Wednesday, they discovered four patients along with an employee who said Marileydis Gomez paid her just $14 per hour, in cash, to provide care.
The patients, deputies said, paid $300 per night to recover at the home.
Deputies said they also found trash cans overflowing with illegally disposed medical waste, including “contaminated objects that were saturated with human fecal matter, blood and urine,” which they said created “a credible and actual biological hazard to the well-being and health of the public.”
It all comes amid an ongoing crackdown on unlicensed South Florida recovery homes.
Marileydis Gomez was arrested on charges of operating an assisted living facility without a license, felony littering, illegal disposal of hazardous waste, failing to track biomedical waste and nuisances injurious to health. She was no longer listed in Miami-Dade jail records as of Thursday afternoon.
Gonzalez Bordao‘s charges were unclear; he was also not listed in Miami-Dade jail records and his mugshot was unavailable as of Thursday afternoon.
