Video shows Biscayne Park cat-poisoning suspect

Man accused of poisoning neighbor's cats

BISCAYNE PARK, Fla. — Surveillance video obtained by Local 10 News shows what police say is a man poisoning his neighbor’s cats in Biscayne Park.

Chaim Gubitz, 72, was arrested on an animal cruelty charge on Wednesday.

Police said he left aluminum trays with food and animal poison — right behind his neighbor’s home Wednesday afternoon in the 900 block of Northeast 119th Street.

The victim who lives here told police that Gubitz had already shown up the prior Saturday and left food and poison behind her house.

She says her two cats, Little and Stella, ate it and later died.

Tests confirmed her cats died of poisoning and police said the trays Gubitz left had the poison.

After catching the suspect on video returning to her home that Wednesday the victim followed him to his home down the street.

Officers showed up and say they confirmed he was the one who put the poisoned food down and arrested him.

Investigators called his actions “cruel, excessive and unnecessary.”

He appeared in court on Thursday.

“Looks like Mr. Gubitz was killing all the cats,” Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer said. “He was poisoning the neighbor’s kitty cat.”

Police said Gubitz invoked his Miranda rights. He’s since been released on a $5,000 bond.
