WEST PARK, Fla. — Chaos on West Park’s city commission is reaching a new level.
City commission meetings here have been bombastic recently and now a commissioner has filed a lawsuit against the mayor and other city officials.
Commissioner Katrina Touchstone filed a lawsuit against Mayor Felicia Brunson, City Clerk Alexandra Grant and City Manager W. Ajibola Balogun for what she describes as political gaslighting.
“Each and every time that an item comes up that the mayor is not in agreement with, she arbitrarily adjourns the meeting,” Touchstone said. “We have been impeded in the capabilities of doing our job.”
Her attorney, Michael Pizzi, described the city as “being run like a mob” and “like a dictatorship.”
The lawsuit also calls for a Broward County judge to take over the meetings to serve as a referee.
One of the motions Touchstone claims she is trying to bring forward but has been unable to involves calls for an investigation, including a probe into “mismanagement of county, state and federal funds.”
“My allegation is that there is corruption going on,” she said at a recent meeting, later conceding, “I don’t have solid evidence and that’s why we’re asking for it to be investigated.”
Local 10 News spoke to Brunson, who said she was unaware of the suit.
She directed our inquiry to Grant, who also serves as a city spokesperson. Staff members at West Park City Hall said she wasn’t in the office Friday.
