MIAMI — Defending Class 3A state champion Miami Northwestern played its first game without Teddy Bridgewater at the helm, facing off against Orange Lutheran.
The game opened with Orange Lutheran scoring a touchdown and converting the extra point to take a 7-0 lead.
On the following drive, Northwestern responded with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Nicholas Lennear, tying the game at 7-7 before halftime.
Orange Lutheran regained the lead in the second half with a touchdown pass to Nico Bland, making it 14-7.
Down by a touchdown, Northwestern answered with a rushing score just before the end of the third quarter. However, a failed two-point conversion left the Bulls trailing 14-13.
With six minutes left in the fourth quarter, Orange Lutheran extended its lead with a 38-yard field goal, sealing the final score at 17-13.
Miami Northwestern opens the season 0-1 without Bridgewater.
Its next game is Friday against Venice High School at Traz Powell Stadium.
