According to City of Miami Department of Fire-Rescue officials, the fire was reported at 10:21 a.m. on Southwest 17th Road, near South Miami Avenue.

“On arrival, crews found a two-story detached garage with a living quarter upstairs with heavy smoke and flames emitting,” an MFR news release stated. “Immediately, the incident was upgraded to a Code 1 working fire promoting additional resources to assist including the Hazardous Materials Team.”

According to officials, firefighters extended hose lines to douse the flames as additional crews searched for the person who lives on the second floor.

“The first floor had a vehicle that was spilling fuel and igniting which required a foam operation to contain and extinguish,” the news release stated.

Firefighters confirmed that the resident had already made it out OK and the fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.

“All surrounding exposures were protected, and no injuries were reported,” the news release stated.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
