Ian Zachary Adams, 28, was scheduled to appear in Fort Lauderdale federal court for a detention hearing on Wednesday. He’s facing three charges related to the distribution, possession and production of child sexual abuse material.

According to a federal criminal complaint, the investigation began in July 2024 after the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received four tips originating from the messaging app Kik that Adams was uploading illicit photos and videos depicting victims as young as toddlers.

Authorities said the Broward Sheriff`s Office executed a search warrant at Adams’ home on Southwest 50th Street on Jan. 28 and seized 17 electronic devices.

“Inside of (Adams’) room, law enforcement observed the following items which matched the background seen in images later linked to a review of his devices: a Confederate flag, a Ford vehicle grille mounted on the west blue wall, and a black cloth,” the complaint states.

Investigators said a file on one of those devices included a screen recording of a lewd video chat between Adams and a girl whom they later determined to be a 10-year-old from North Carolina. The case was then turned over to the FBI, the complaint states.

According to the complaint, the girl told investigators on May 19 that she had met Adams through an app called Monkey that allows people to video chat with strangers.

Investigators said she told them that “he had asked for her other social media accounts in order to further contact her” but they only communicated through Monkey.

Adams’ federal pre-trial detention hearing was scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

He’s scheduled to be arraigned in Fort Lauderdale federal court on Sept. 9.

As of Wednesday, he was being held in the BSO Main Jail on behalf of the U.S. Marshals Service, records show.
