Plantation church parishioners praying for victims of Minnesota mass shooting

Parishioners in Plantation praying for victims of Minnesota shooting

PLANTATION, Fla. — Parishioners leaving mass at St. Gregory Catholic Church in Plantation on Wednesday night said they had one priority.

That was to pray for the parents and children impacted by the mass shooting in Minneapolis.

“The focus today is for Minnesota,” said parishioner Oscar Rodriguez. “I don’t want it anymore. I don’t want it. Stop the shooting in every school, every child.”

Wednesday morning, during mass service at a Minnesota catholic school, a shooter killed two children and injured dozens of people.

Luis Almora says during mass service at St. Gregory, all he could do was think about his son who attends the church’s catholic school on the same campus.

“Thank God every time we have a police guard here in the car to take care of them, but we never know,” he said. “Anywhere else still it’s not a good thing to think about it.”

Almora says even during mass, he can trust that his 13-year-old son will be safe because of the guard he sees roaming around.

“You come to mass to pray and someone comes and does that kind of nonsense is not thinkable,” he said. “I hope that never happens again. never.”
