MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews recorded video as they responded to two recent calls about invasive Burmese pythons.
The first incident occurred Saturday morning and involved a python found just inside of the engine compartment of a tractor-trailer near the 10400 block of Southwest 248th Street.
The other was found early Sunday morning in the backyard of a home near the 11200 block of Northwest 62nd Terrace.
Both pythons were safely captured and removed, with no injuries to any residents.
“Burmese pythons are an invasive species that pose a serious ecological threat to South Florida, preying on native wildlife and disrupting the region’s delicate ecosystem,” MDFR told Local 10 News Thursday in an email. “Their activity tends to increase during the summer months, and sightings near urban areas have become more common.”
