Authorities said a truck towing a boat was traveling south on I-75 near mile marker 149 around 1:40 a.m. when it failed to slow for slower-moving vehicles ahead.

They said one of the slower vehicles was painting divider lines on the roadway and the shoulder, followed closely by another truck.

The truck with the boat collided with the rear of the truck behind the painting crew, which troopers say then struck the line-painting vehicle.

The 64-year-old driver of the middle truck sustained critical injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to a local hospital, where he later pronounced dead, according to FHP officials.

FHP officials said the investigation is ongoing and no other details about the deceased victim were immediately released.
