LAUDERHILL, Fla. — A man was arrested in Lauderhill on Thursday following a shooting that injured another man while he was allegedly carrying his infant child in a car seat, authorities confirmed.
Officers with the Lauderhill Police Department said they responded around 4 p.m. to an apartment near the 7000 block of Environ Boulevard, where officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound in a parking garage.
Police said he was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center and remains in stable condition. The child was unharmed.
According to police, the victim and suspect, Taisani Da Shoniel Graham, 26, who are known to each other, rode an elevator separately before exiting on the garage floor.
Police said Graham pulled out a gun from a shoulder bag and shot the victim in the back while the victim, who was still carrying his child in a car seat, ran to a nearby vehicle and returned fire, causing Graham to retreat.
Graham allegedly threatened the child’s mother with the gun as she came to collect the infant, prompting her to take cover, according to investigators.
Graham remained at the scene and was detained shortly afterward by Lauderhill police, they said. He invoked his right to an attorney and did not speak with investigators.
Graham, who is being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail, faces charges including attempted felony murder, aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony, and abuse of a child without great bodily harm, according to jail records obtained by Local 10 News on Saturday.
A motive for the shooting remains unclear at this time.
