FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — At least two people were detained Wednesday morning during a criminal investigation at a home in Fort Lauderdale.
Police officers from Fort Lauderdale and Boynton Beach were spotted outside the home in the 2600 block of Northwest 16th Court, including SWAT team members.
Two people were seen being detained with zip ties.
Fort Lauderdale police confirmed to Local 10 News that they were assisting Boynton Beach police with a criminal investigation.
“This was a planned operation and remains an active investigation,” the Boynton Beach Police Department told Local 10 News in an email.
A Local 10 viewer claimed to have heard gunshots in the area, but police have not confirmed whether any shots were fired.
“There were shots fired -- about 10,” neighbor William Ward said. “They were constantly asking the occupants of the house to come out with their hands up and that they had a warrant to search the premises.”
Other neighbors said the SWAT team used flashbangs. blowing the garage door off its hinges.
“I heard a loud boom -- it sounded like gunshots, but whatever tactic they use to open the doors, I don’t know,” neighbor Sheri Jackson said. “We all jumped up and there were cops everywhere. It was just crazy.”
Jackson lives next door to the home in question and her Ring camera captured the chaos that ensued.
“Most people who live there are elderly,” she said. “I saw them coming out after a while -- they were sitting outside.”
No other details about the investigation were immediately released.
While a couple people were detained during the investigation, it’s unclear whether anyone was formally arrested.
