BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A SWAT raid in Fort Lauderdale was connected to a bust of a “multi-county drug trafficking organization” distributing fentanyl and cocaine, authorities announced Thursday.
Police officers from Fort Lauderdale and Boynton Beach were spotted outside the home in the 2600 block of Northwest 16th Court on Wednesday.
Boynton Beach police were leading the investigation, dubbed “Operation Trackside,” and announced 19 arrests in the case, including a 73-year-old Fort Lauderdale man.
All other arrestees were from Palm Beach County. Police said their investigation began with a “simple drug complaint” in July 2024.
The complaint came in an unusual form: A letter.
“It’s not common for us to get letters in the mail, but we don’t care where these tips come from,” Boynton Beach police Sgt. Daryn Whitefield said in a Thursday morning news conference.
Authorities said in a news release that they executed 15 search warrants simultaneously on Wednesday, resulting “in the seizure of six handguns, two semi-automatic rifles, eleven vehicles, one boat, 5,027 grams of narcotics, and $452,026 in cash.”
“Additional arrests are expected,” police said.
