DANIA BEACH, Fla. — A 15-year-old accused of fatally shooting his older brother and dumping his body by a canal in Dania Beach is now being charged as an adult, and told detectives that his sibling had “done stuff to him” in the past, according to an arrest warrant obtained by Local 10 News on Friday.
Detectives said Demetre Fleurimond admitted to waiting for his brother, 23-year-old Kevin Dominique, to walk inside their home on Aug. 17 before firing a rifle at him about 15 times.
Demetre then dragged Dominique’s body outside, placed him in the back seat of his car and later dumped the body along a canal three minutes away, the warrant stated.
When investigators found Dominique, he had multiple gunshot wounds, abrasions to his body and swelling to his face, they said. A Glock magazine was discovered in his pocket, and his identification and a black latex glove were found nearby.
Detectives said Dominique had been reported missing Aug. 18 after failing to show up for work.
They said his body was discovered the following day. A neighbor told deputies he heard gunshots the night Dominique was last seen and saw a black Honda speeding away, according to the warrant.
Investigators said a search of Demetre’s room turned up a bloodstained security shirt from Dominique’s workplace, gloves consistent with one recovered near the victim’s body, ammunition, and firearms hidden between his mattress and box spring.
They said surveillance video also showed a person leaving Dominique’s vehicle at the Dania Beach Library carrying what appeared to be a gun.
Demetre told detectives that the weapons belong to a friend, but later confessed to the murder, apologizing to his mother and admitting he cleaned up blood, collected shell casings and discarded evidence, the warrant stated.
Authorities said he also told investigators that Dominique had “done stuff to him” in the past, but refused to explain further.
In court last month, Demetre appeared emotionless as a judge ordered him held without bond at the Broward Main Jail.
His mother, Marie Jeanty, told Local 10 News she believes a dispute over chores may have sparked the deadly confrontation.
“Sunday morning when I came back, I saw the kitchen tiles were clean,” Jeanty said. “‘I know you did it, but Kevin must’ve asked you to do it.’ I believe that made him mad.”
Friends remembered Dominique as someone who often stepped into a parental role for his younger brother.
“He said he felt like he could never be a brother to Demetre how he wanted to be because he felt like he was parenting him,” said Ariel Lobo, a longtime friend. “The last time I spoke to Kevin was Sunday. The only thing I’ve been thinking about is I’ll never be able to call him again.”
Jeanty said Demetre told her that Dominique “never sexually abused him,” and a motive for the killing remains unclear at this time.
Jail records show Demetre is facing one count of first-degree murder with a firearm.
He appeared in a Broward courtroom Friday, where a judge held him without bond and ordered him to have no contact with any witness connected to the case.
