MIAMI SPRINGS, Fla. — At Miami Springs Elementary School, it’s no secret that Pre-K teacher Bianca Pereyra adores her students.

She’s been a special needs teacher for years, caring for them like her very own.

“And I always feel like I can make a difference in my students lives,” she said.

Teaching things like colors and ABC’s, Pereyra’s teaching world was stopped in its tracks by a cancer diagnosis.

It’s the second time she’s been diagnosed with cancer, but she has never let it define her.

Between doctor’s visits and chemo, Pereyra is where she loves being the most, the classroom.

Her daughter submitted Pereyra for a contest for the Best Teacher in Florida.

The chances of winning anything online are slim, especially when there were more than 600 submissions, but on Friday, the teacher who encourages kids to speak was left speechless.

She was awarded a vouchers to take any cruise she’d like a gift from the law firm Just Call Moe.

“I’m in awe. I’m a little speechless,” she said. “I’m very thankful.”

Surrounded by her children and faculty, all showering her with love, it’s a reminder that the best people in life are those who help light others paths.
