Judge denies ‘stand your ground’ claim for murder suspect who gained notoriety for jail pregnancy

"Stand your ground" defense denied for murder suspect who got pregnant in jail

MIAMI — A Homestead murder suspect who made national headlines for becoming impregnated by another inmate while locked up will not be able to use a “stand your ground” defense, a Miami-Dade judge ruled on Monday.

Daisy Link, 30, is accused of shooting and killing her partner, Pedro Jimenez.

It happened on June 25, 2022, outside of Link’s home.

Link, then 27, was heard on video saying, “(Unintelligible) a major artery. You’ll be fine,” after shooting Jimenez.

Link’s defense team tried to get the second-degree murder case dropped, arguing in their motion that she and Jimenez were in a tumultuous relationship marred by long-term physical abuse and domestic violence.

They said Link fired a shot in self-defense because she was in fear for her life. But Judge Lody Jean ruled that, for several reasons, including her behavior after the shooting and her own statements, “stand your ground” did not apply.

“One of the key pieces of evidence is the Ring camera and the behavior of the defendant, which included a calm and joking demeanor,” Jean said.

Link gained notoriety in 2024 after managing to become pregnant while behind bars at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

A tipster told Local 10 News that in 2023, a male inmate housed in the jail sent his encased semen through an air conditioning vent to a lower floor, where Link was housed.

The source said Link and the male inmate have never even seen each other, but inmates often speak to each other through the vents.

She’s set to remain jailed at TGK until her trial. Link’s baby is now in the custody of her family.
