South Florida community support: 12-year-old Coral Springs tennis player needs your vote

At 12, Skyelin Johnson shines in the tennis court in Coral Springs

Skyelin Johnson works hard on the tennis court in Coral Springs. And off the court, the 12-year-old student in 7th grade is asking her neighbors to vote for her so she can win the nationwide Youth Athlete of the Year Scholarship Contest.

“I train twice a day,” Skyelin said. “Two hours normally.”

Skyelin has about a week to get all of the votes she can win and be featured in a 3BRAND ad in Sports Illustrated and take home $25,000 that she can use for college. Her dream after graduating in 2031 is to go to the University of California, Los Angeles.

“I am going to work as hard as I can until I get there,” Skyelin said.

On Thursday night, Skyelin was second in the quarter finals. For updates about her position and to vote for your South Florida neighbor, visit this page.
