During the arrest, Saliya Siby headbutted a police officer along West 41st Street, near Royal Palm Avenue, and the police officer required stitches at the nearby Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

“Our officer did exactly what we trained to do,” Officer Christopher Bess said.

Siby, 46, who had a knife and cans with accelerants, threatened to blow himself up, according to police.

“Shoot! Shoot,” Siby told police officers before his arrest, according to the police video. Police officers did not fire.

Miami-Dade County court records show prosecutors filed a case against Siby on Sunday for three felonies and two misdemeanors.

Siby faced charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, threat to throw a bomb, resisting arrest with violence, resisting arrest without violence, and carrying a weapon.

Siby appeared in bond court on Sunday, and a judge granted the prosecution’s motion for pre-trial detention.

County inmate records show corrections held Siby at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Monday night.

The court set his next hearing for Sept. 18 and his arraignment hearing for Oct. 14. Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Carmen R. Cabarga was set to preside over the case.
