Deputies: Serial thief preferred Bealls in Broward, Palm Beach

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A 27-year-old woman appeared in Broward County bond court on Thursday after detectives accused her of spending months stealing from different Bealls stores.

Detectives identified Tramyah Smith as a serial thief and listed 16 cases this year at Bealls stores in Palm Beach and Broward counties, according to arrest reports.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Smith on Wednesday in North Lauderdale, and corrections booked her at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale, records show.

Detectives in Broward and Palm Beach estimated Smith was involved in about $2,985 in losses for Bealls, a family-owned corporation based in Bradenton.

The 10 theft cases in Broward County estimated at nearly $2,190 were about $279 on Feb. 1 in Plantation; about $343 on Feb. 20 in Pembroke Pines; about $225 on Feb. 24 in Fort Lauderdale; about $61 on Feb. 28 in Plantation; about $201 on March 11 in Margate; about $122 on March 23 in Pompano Beach; about $275 on March 25 in Fort Lauderdale; about $319 on March 26 in Margate; about $108 on May 10 in Hollywood; and about $255 on May 3 in Plantation.

The six theft cases in Palm Beach County estimated at nearly $795 were $150 on Feb. 5 in West Palm Beach; about $149 on Feb. 22 in Lake Worth; about $156 on March 25 in Palm Springs; about $65 on March 25 in Boynton Beach; about $140 on April 8 in Delray Beach; and about $134 on May 16 in Delray Beach.
