LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. — A Lauderdale Lakes man who will likely be spending his next birthday in jail is accused of threatening to carry out a mass shooting after deputies say he was caught on camera making violent threats that referenced Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and Plantation back in August.
Jail records show Michael Christopher Rojas, who turns 42 on Sunday, was arrested Wednesday evening by deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
According to investigators, deputies received a video from Aug. 30 showing Rojas walking up to a camera outside his Lauderdale Lakes apartment complex around 3:30 a.m.
In the video, deputies said they recognized his voice from previous encounters.
“Everybody needs to f------ go. I’m gonna shoot everybody. I promise you. My mom, dad, my f------ father. Y’all better be ready (because) when it’s time, f--- them little n----- in Plantation,” Rojas is heard saying in the video, according to the arrest report.
“F--- Stoneman Douglas, I’m coming. Sequence of murders -- sequence you heard? 5,6,7,8,9, 10 heads in one day,” he added.
Detectives said the threats led them to believe Rojas was preparing to carry out a mass shooting either in Plantation or at MSD.
Deputies also noted Rojas has a violent history and has previously been seen displaying what appeared to be a rifle outside his apartment.
After taking him into custody at his apartment complex, authorities said Rojas made a statement that was redacted in the publicly-released report.
Investigators added they believe Rojas could access a gun if he wanted, citing his mother’s deteriorating health as a possible trigger that might lead him to “commit the sequence of murders.”
Records show Rojas is facing one count of intimidation — written/electronic threat of a mass shooting or terrorism act.
As of Friday, he was being held at the Broward Main Jail on $250,000 bond.
A motive for the alleged threats remains unclear.
