MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 32-year-old man is facing an attempted murder charge after authorities said he started a gunfight after a youth football game in Miami-Dade’s unincorporated Goulds area.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested the accused gunman and instigator, Deandreya Shepherd, early Friday morning. Authorities said it the dispute was over a woman.
The incident happened at JL and Enid Demps Park, located at 11350 SW 216th St., at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
Deputies said Shepherd, of Homestead, was at the park with his girlfriend and confronted another man who was at the game with his own girlfriend ― there to watch her child play ― and pulled up his shirt, displaying a pistol in his waistband.
According to an arrest report, the woman told Shepherd, “You’re not even supposed to be here,” to which he replied, “Who’s gonna stop me?” before taking out the gun and firing multiple rounds at the two.
That prompted the other man to hide behind a tree, then take out his own gun and begin firing, deputies said.
The arrest report states that deputies found 18 rounds at the scene, though there was no mention of any injuries.
Deputies said Shepherd left in his girlfriend’s car and pulled Shepherd and his girlfriend over the next day after locating the vehicle near her home on Southwest 120th Avenue.
The report states that Shepherd, under questioning, “stated that he was present at the football game but never possessed or fired a gun.”
Shepherd was arrested at around 3 a.m. Friday at MDSO’s Cutler Bay station.
Besides attempted murder, he faces charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
As of Friday afternoon, Shepherd was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
