MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 31-year-old man surrendered to deputies on Tuesday and appeared in court on Wednesday over a road rage shooting back in September in Miami-Dade County’s Fontainebleau neighborhood, records show.
Sabri Perez surrendered to Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the Midwest District Station at 9101 SW 25 St., in Westchester, records show.
Prosecutors filed a case on Wednesday against Perez, who lives in Hialeah Gardens, for second-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon, court records show.
Perez and the victim “were involved in a road rage incident,” a M-DCSO deputy wrote without details, according to the arrest report in the case.
The shooting was at about 5:40 p.m. on Sept. 19, along Southwest 92 Avenue, near Fourth Street, feet away from the parking lot of the Florida Electric Substation, and near the Doral West Soccer Academy for children.
Perez was driving a silver 2020 Audi Q5 when he stopped in front of the victim, who was driving a silver 2017 Toyota Corolla, according to the deputy’s report.
“The victim exited his vehicle empty-handed,” the deputy wrote, adding that the victim then ran up to the driver’s side window of the Audi Q5.
Perez pulled out a gun, and he “shot at the victim in the abdomen,” a deputy wrote.
The victim attempted to take the gun away from Perez, and the two got into a fight, and Perez was shot in the chest, according to the arrest report.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel took the victim and Perez to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital’s trauma center, at 11750 SW 40 St., in Tamiami, according to deputies.
Detectives had three bullet casings that were on the street, one 9 mm casing that was in the Audi, and a memory card from a dash camera. It had video showing “the victim running towards the vehicle” but did not capture the shooting, according to deputies.
While hospitalized, the victim told deputies that he did not remember details, according to the report. Perez appeared in bond court on Wednesday and was denied bond. The judge also ordered him to stay away from the victim.
Perez was at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Zachary James is set to preside over the case.
