MIAMI — LeeDetectives needed the help of a SWAT team to arrest a suspect on Saturday in Miami-Dade County’s Westchester area after a birthday party shooting in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
Angelo Garcia was at The Comfort Suites Miami-Kendall when a SWAT team stormed inside to arrest him. Tito Polaco said he was stunned by their loud arrival.
“It was almost 2 a.m. I was awake. I was in bed watching TV and then I heard those six or seven ‘BOOMs’ -- thinking it was gunshots,” Polaco said.
Garcia, 38, walked out of the building at 3901 SW 117 Ave. in handcuffs. Detectives accused him of shooting up a woman’s 75th birthday party shortly after 1:05 a.m. on Friday, at a house at 910 SW 12 Ave.
Surveillance video showed the victims in the front yard talking to Garcia, the gunman, before he fired at them, according to a Miami police officer’s arrest report.
Garcia, a neighbor, allegedly asked one of the victims where a friend who had offended him a week ago was, and the victim said the friend was in Cuba, according to the Miami police officer’s arrest report.

Inmate records show Miami-Dade correctional deputies booked Garcia shortly before 1:35 p.m. on Saturday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Garcia faced four counts of second-degree attempted murder or aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, displaying a firearm while committing a felony, and unlawful discharge of a firearm in a residential property, inmate records show.
