MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 64-year-old Miami-Dade County man was arrested Tuesday after deputies said he attacked another man with a hammer during a dispute over a parking space last month.
The incident occurred Dec. 20 in a parking lot along Southwest Eighth Avenue, according to deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. The suspect was identified as Kimber Mathew Long, who investigators said is the victim’s landlord.
According to an arrest report, Long went to the victim’s home and got into an argument with him over a vehicle parked on the property. Deputies said Long armed himself with a hammer and attempted to damage the victim’s motorcycle.
When the victim tried to intervene, deputies said Long struck him multiple times with the hammer, causing lacerations to the victim’s head and arms. They said the victim is an elderly man.
Deputies later identified Long through a photo lineup and located him at his home, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Jail records show Long is facing one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon causing great bodily harm on an elderly person.
As of Wednesday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond is listed as “to be set.”
