Miami-Dade deputies identify man who jumped into field during Canes-Hoosiers game, records show

Deputies identified the man who jumped into the football field during the big Canes-Hoosiers game on Monday night at Hard Rock Stadium, records show.

Alonzo McGill, 50, who lives in Downtown Miami, “jumped over the north rail behind the bench” assigned to the University of Miami Hurricanes, according to a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy’s arrest report.

Jorge Baez reported seeing McGill “taking items” from the bench during the College Football Playoff National Championship event in Miami Gardens, according to the M-DSO deputy’s report.

A deputy arrested McGill at 11:40 p.m. on Monday, and corrections booked him shortly after 2:40 a.m. on Tuesday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, records show.

Miami-Dade prosecutors filed a case against McGill on Tuesday on a charge of interference with a sports or entertainment event, according to court records.

During a bond court hearing on Tuesday afternoon, McGill told Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Mindy S. Glazer that he has lived in Miami for 13 years.

“He has no priors,” Glazer said in court about McGill not having a criminal record in Miami-Dade.

Glazer ordered McGill to stay away from the Hard Rock Stadium, allowed pre-trial services, and set his bond at $2,500.

Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Zachary N. James was set to preside over the case.
