MONROE COUNTY, Fla. — A mother called 911 to say her 31-year-old son was armed with a sword and threatening to kill her, and she ended up getting arrested too, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
It turns out domestic violence wasn’t the Green family’s only problem in the lower Florida Keys. The 51-year-old mother, Jerneen Green, was “one of Monroe County’s most wanted drug offenders,” according to Adam Linhardt, a spokesman for the MCSO.
“Green called 911 to report Zjiavon Green had been drinking alcohol and was damaging property, as well as swinging a katana-style sword and threatening to kill her and everyone else,” Linhardt wrote in a statement.
Deputies responded to the Green family’s home at about 2 p.m. on Monday along 11th Avenue, in a crowded neighborhood near Bernstein Park, in Stock Island, according to the M-CSO.
“Zjiavon could be heard threatening Jerneen and responding deputies on the 911 call,” Linhardt wrote.
Deputies arrested Zijiavon Green in the home’s backyard. He faced a charge of aggravated assault.
“He stated the incident started due to an argument with his mother,” Linhardt wrote.
There were warrants for Jerneen Green’s arrest after deputies accused her of trafficking cocaine, fentanyl, and hydrocodone, a semi-synthetic opioid.
Green faced 17 charges, including 14 felonies and three misdemeanors: Possession of drug equipment and two counts of possession of a prescription drug, according to county inmate records.
The 14 felonies: six counts of selling cocaine, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of drug trafficking, two counts of cocaine possession, cocaine trafficking, and keeping or maintaining a public nuisance structure for drug activity. Her bond was $50,000.
