MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — On Monday, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office honored the late Deputy Devin Jaramillo with a memorial boulder.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz read a statement during a ceremony at the M-DSO Kendall District Station at 7707 SW 117 Ave.
“The memorial boulder will sit here as a reminder of Devin’s courage and his ultimate sacrifice. It will greet every deputy who walks through these doors, and it will remind us that the badge is not just metal, it’s a promise,” Cordero-Stutz said. “Devin kept that promise and we will keep his memory enduring, not just as a name edged in stone but a standard edged in our hearts.”

Jaramillo, 27, died on Nov. 7 at the HCA Florida Kendall Hospital after Steven Rustrian shot him at Southwest 122nd Avenue and 128th Street, according to deputies.
During a struggle after Jaramillo responded to a traffic crash, Rustrian, 21, took Jaramillo’s gun, shot him, and shot himself, according to deputies.
Jaramillo’s parents, Yolanda and David Jaramillo, a retired detective and former leader within the Hispanic Police Officers Association, were at the ceremony.
“I wore his ID that they took off him that day,” the grieving father said, showing it hanging on his neck during the ceremony. “The badge number he has on there is 1765; that was my badge number.”
