Feds arrest 5 after $16,000 undercover fentanyl deal ends 2-year probe in Broward, records show

DRUG CONSPIRACY ARRESTS: Court records show an undercover operation included a $16,000 purchase of 8,000 pills of pressed fentanyl on Wednesday in Broward County.

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives special agents and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies started to investigate two brothers two years ago for distributing fentanyl, according to an arrest warrant.

Investigators focused on a first-floor apartment at 10747 S Preserve Way in Miramar that brothers Anand and Sunil Someria and Richarles Lake used as a “trap house,” according to the warrant.

DRUG CONSPIRACY ARREST: The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Anand Someria on Wednesday in Broward County.

Investigators also identified their “stash house” at 1605 SW 116th Ave., at the Avant Apartments, in Pembroke Pines, according to the warrant.

“Over the past few months, law enforcement has conducted numerous undercover controlled purchases of pressed Fentanyl Pills from Sunil and Anand,” an ATF special agent wrote, according to the warrant.

On Thursday, an undercover investigator reported making a deal with Sunil Someria to buy 8,000 fentanyl pills for $16,000, records show.

DRUG CONSPIRACY ARREST: The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Sunil Someria on Wednesday in Broward County.

Anand Someria, 23, drove his Honda to the Sunshine Storage at 11960 Miramar Parkway, went inside to retrieve a black bag, and put it in the trunk of a parked silver Hyundai Sonata, according to the arrest warrant.

Sunil Someria met with the undercover investigator at the “trap house,” and the two left in separate cars to the “stash house,” where the investigator got in Sunil Someria’s car, according to the warrant.

Sunil Someria “was apologetic and said that one of his friends was just caught selling to an undercover, things were hot ... the narcotics were in the silver Hyundai Sonata directly in front of them,” an ATF special agent wrote, according to the warrant.

The undercover investigator got into the back seat of the Hyundai with Sunil Someria and saw Charles Randall in the driver’s seat and Jonathan Randall in the front passenger seat, according to the warrant

“Pop the trunk, dad,” Jonathan Randall, 20, told Charles Randall, 58, according to the warrant.

Sunil Someria “retrieved the bag from the trunk,” and the undercover investigator counted the bags of pressed fentanyl pills, handed him the $16,000 in cash, and left in his car, according to the warrant.

The U.S. Marshals Service later arrested the Randalls at 17683 SW 5th St., in Pembroke Pines, and the Someria brothers and Lake at the “trap house” in Miramar, records show.

DRUG CONSPIRACY ARREST: The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Richarles Lake on Wednesday in Broward County.

The five suspects remained at the Broward County Main Jail on Friday morning in Fort Lauderdale with a U.S. Marshals Service hold. They faced charges of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, carfentanil.

Court records show the five were set to appear before Magistrate Judge Patrick M. Hunt on Friday at the U.S. Federal Building and Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale. Their detention hearing is at 10 a.m. on March 23 and their arraignment at 11 a.m. on April 2.
